Tartarus
Tartarus was an underground prison, as far below Hades as earth is below the vaulted dome of the sky, in which those Titans who rebelled against the will of Zeus were confined. In later writings Tartarus is the place of punishment for the wicked after death, and is also used as a general term for the underworld.
